Mickelson injures left elbow

DORAL, Fla. – Phil Mickelson injured his left elbow Saturday at Doral while hitting his 141-yard approach shot into the 18th green. Although Mickelson did not speak with reporters after his round he did issue a statement through his management firm.

“I stung it a little bit hitting into the ground,” Mickelson said in the statement. “It’s a little tender but these things usually go away in 12 to 24 hours.”

Mickelson also said he was not concerned about the injury, eluding to the possibility that he has had this type of injury before.

Mickelson – the defending champion this week at the WGC-CA Championship – is tied for 16th after an even-par 72 left him at 4 under.
