No alternates in sight on site

MARANA, Ariz. – The case of the missing alternate got a little more interesting Wednesday morning at Dove Mountain.

Ben Curtis, who at 68th in the World Ranking was the default first alternate with the abscence of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Fernando Gonzalo-Castano (67th in the world), was spotted on property by multiple sources on Tuesday but was nowhere to be found when play got under way on Wednesday.

Tour official Steve Carman said he had not seen Curtis and calls to his agent Ernest Mansour were not immediately returned.

Curtis is not in the field at the opposite-field event in Mexico this week.

Shingo Katayama, 69th in the World Ranking, was not at Dove Mountain either.
