Ogilvy sparkles with Saturday 65

Geoff Ogilvy at the 2012 Wells Fargo Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – One man’s garbage is another man’s treasure.

Not to take away from Geoff Ogilvy’s lone major, but the case could be argued that he stumbled upon the treasure that both Phil Mickelson and Colin Montgomerie threw away at the 2006 U.S. Open.

This week at the Wells Fargo Championship, Ogilvy’s in search of his eighth career PGA Tour victory after a 14-time major winner missed the cut for the eighth time in his professional career.

Ogilvy played alongside Tiger Woods in the first two rounds at Quail Hollow, falling inside the cut line after rounds of 71-70 while Woods was sent packing.

And then, Ogilvy went treasure hunting. He fired a near-flawless 65 Saturday at Quail Hollow, in a round that included eight birdies and one bogey on the 18th when he hit it in the water off the tee.
