One eye on Doral

MARANA, Ariz. – As if five matches and 63 potential opponents isn’t enough to keep track of, there are also plenty of race-within-a-race scenarios going on this week at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

The top 50 in the World Golf Ranking on Monday qualify for the next World Golf Championship in two weeks at Doral. At No. 56 in the world Stewart Cink likely needs two more victories at Dove Mountain to move into the top 50 and secure his ninth trip to the WGC-Cadillac Championship while Ryan Palmer (57th), Matteo Manassero (58th) and J.B. Holmes (66th) also need solid weeks.

“I’m losing (World Ranking) points every week so I’m operating under the assumption that I’m not in (Doral),” Cink said following his first-round victory over Ian Poulter.

Players can also qualify for Doral via the current FedEx Cup points list, which assures Mark Wilson who is 52nd in the world but first in points an invitation, and off the European Tour’s Race for Dubai list, which could help the likes Manassero.
