WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - With five rounds in the books at Q-School finals, circa 2010, there’s four major numbers the field will be focused on during tomorrow's final round:
25 – the number of PGA Tour cards (plus ties) up for grabs this week.
50 – the number of full Nationwide Tour cards given to the next 50 players (or nearest number to) following the PGA Tour card winners.
9 – the amount of strokes under par currently determining the ‘bubble’ within the top 25 – at T-22.
18 – the amount of holes remaining to determine each contestant’s 2011 job status.
Twenty-six players currently sit at 9 under for the week, and another 25 are within four shots of that at 5 under or better.
Primed to allow for some courageous final-round vaults to the PGA Tour with that many hopefuls hovering near? Maybe. But with a cool and blustery day forecasted, we’re more likely to see players holding on for dear life than gunning for birdies and taking it deep.
In any case, the final day of Q-School always provides spectacular dramatics, heroics and failures – perhaps more so than in any other tournament in professional golf. So, strap in for one heck of a final-day ride, watch the numbers get crunched and the '10 class graduate.
