Reavie worthy of the Tour Championship, but not fall series

NORTON, Mass. – Imagine a scenario where a player is on a roll, peaking at just the right time as he avoids playoff oblivion at each turn. Now imagine said player, two solid rounds away from his first trip to the Tour Championship, will likely watch much of the PGA Tour’s Fall Series from his couch because he’s not qualified for most of the post-playoff run.
For Chez Reavie that farfetched scenario is a reality. He’s tied for sixth through two rounds at the Deutsche Bank Championship and currently projected to finish 48th in FedEx Cup points, which would pave the way to the third playoff event in two weeks in Chicago and possibly beyond.
Beyond that, however, Reavie’s schedule is, at best, hit and miss. Because he began the year playing on a major medical exemption and failed to earn enough in 13 events to retain his Tour card, Reavie has been saddled with poor status that has limited his starts.
He’s currently qualified to play the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open via his top-10 finish at the Wyndham Championship (T-9), but he likely won’t qualify for the Fall events in California, Georgia and Florida to finish the season.
“It’s been like that all year,” said Reavie, who has rebounded well following surgery to repair the ACL in his right knee last June. “I could make it into the Tour Championship and not get into any fall events.”
