Report: Thumb injury could sideline Levin in '13

Spencer Levin could sit out the 2013 season if his surgically repaired thumb isn’t 100 percent by next month’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, according to a report Wednesday in the Sacramento Bee.
The 28-year-old Levin, who was 68th in 2012 earnings, has already scratched the Tour’s first three events off his schedule. If he hasn’t fully recovered by Pebble (Feb. 7-10), Levin would likely accept a major medical extension because this shortened season doesn’t provide him as many opportunities to retain his Tour card.
“He wouldn’t lose anything other than a year off his career, basically,” said Levin’s agent, Kevin Canning, via Steve Pajak of the Sacramento Bee. “You rarely hear a story about a guy who says, ‘Wow, I waited too long to come back.’”
Levin underwent successful surgery in October to repair a torn ligament in his thumb.
