Report: Tiger, Phil might soon share management

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson might soon be represented by the same management company.

According to a weekend report in the New York Post, Lagardere Unlimited – which boasts such clients as Phil Mickelson, Keegan Bradley and Nick Watney, among others – is looking to acquire Excel Sports Management, which represents several high-profile athletes, including Woods and Matt Kuchar.

The Post, which cited an anonymous source, said the “talks are ongoing.” An independent source told that a decision will be made this week.

“Lagardere wants to set up a sports empire,” the source told the Post. “Mickelson and Woods have an extremely competitive rivalry that has bred some contempt among their rival camps. It would be interesting to see how that plays out if they end up under the same management umbrella.”

Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, joined Excel in July 2011 after spending several years at IMG. He brought Woods with him as a client.
