Jiyai Shin won the Ricoh Women’s British Open in a record runaway Sunday at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.
Shin won by nine shots, the largest margin of victory in this event since it became an LPGA major championship 12 years ago. It was her 10th LPGA title and her second in as many weeks. She defeated Paula Creamer in a playoff to win the Kingsmill Championship last week.
At 9-under 279, Shin claimed the second major championship of her career. She also won the Women’s British Open in ’08.

Shin was the only player to finish under par for 72 holes at Royal Liverpool. Inbee Park finished runner up at even par.
The largest margin of victory in a women’s major is 14 strokes, a record set by Louise Suggs when she won the U.S. Women’s Open in 1949. Cristie Kerr won the LPGA Championship by 12 two years ago, and Yani Tseng won the LPGA Championship by 10 last year.
Shin managed well in Sunday’s brutish weather, the high winds and rain that battered players over a marathon 36-hole finish the final day.
Shin closed with a 73 in the final round despite a triple bogey at the first hole. She shot 71 in the morning.
The victory gives golf its first Asian slam with players from the Far East winning all four majors for the first time in a calendar year. It marks the seventh consecutive major championship victory by Asians and the eighth consecutive win in an LPGA by an Asian-born player this year.
