LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – He didn’t win the FedEx Cup but that doesn’t mean Webb Simpson doesn’t have anything left to play for in 2011. Simpson finished the FedEx Cup portion of the season with $5.7 million in earnings, about $69,000 behind Luke Donald on the money list.
Donald, however, doesn’t plan to play again on the PGA Tour this season and with the money title comes a five-year exemption. Simpson, a two-time winner this year on Tour, is currently exempt for three years. But an extra two years would be nice.
Simpson wasn’t sure if he’d play again this season when asked on Sunday at East Lake but indicated he was considering the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, which would bring an added degree of interest that the Disney stop hasn’t enjoyed in some time.
“I really wouldn’t be surprised if Webb turns up at one of these Fall events,” Joe Ogilvie said at the Disney media day on Tuesday. “It could be an exceedingly interesting event.”
