ATLANTA – There is no shortage of motivation for players heading into Sunday’s final round at East Lake – $10 million, the Tour Championship title, momentum heading into next week’s Ryder Cup, etc. – but Brandt Snedeker has some added drive.
Snedeker, who is tied for the 54-hole lead with Justin Rose at 8 under and can claim the FedEx Cup with a victory on Sunday, has split his focus between the finale and the Shepard Center, a renowned medical center just 12 miles from East Lake where Tucker Anderson, the son of Snedeker’s longtime swing coach Todd Anderson, is recovering.
Tucker was in a near-fatal car crash on Sept. 7 in Pensacola, Fla., and after two weeks in intensive care he was transferred to the Shepard Center on Tuesday.
“Tucker got out of bed and into a wheel chair this morning! God’s miracle continues,” Todd Anderson tweeted on Friday.
Snedeker said he’s been in frequent contact with Todd Anderson, the PGA Teacher of the Year, this week and that the incident has helped put his whirlwind few weeks in perspective.
“It’s been kind of a blessing,” said Snedeker, who will play his first Ryder Cup next week. “It’s not a blessing, it’s a horrible thing, but it definitely gives you more focus, more reality of what’s really going on.”
