Jordan Spieth is making his professional debut two weeks earlier than expected.
Originally planning to play a Monday qualifier at the Farmers Insurance Open, the former University of Texas standout was instead given a late sponsor exemption into the tournament, according to a report Monday by the Dallas Morning News.
Spieth, 19, who turned pro in December after helping lead the Longhorns to an NCAA Championship in his first and only full season, already has sponsor invitations to the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am (Feb. 7-10) and Puerto Rico Open (March 7-10). A strong candidate to receive at least one invite during the Texas swing, he has a limit of seven unrestricted sponsor exemptions throughout the season.
Spieth, the low amateur at the 2012 U.S. Open, has made the cut in six of his eight career PGA Tour starts. He does not have full status on any major tour after failing to advance past second stage of PGA Tour Q-School.
