Stricker and Goydos elected Player Advisory Council co-chairmen

MARANA, Ariz. – Steve Stricker is the headliner this week at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, the No. 2 player in the World Ranking and a recent winner of the Northern Trust Open.

On Wednesday we also learned he is bound for a seat of power on the PGA Tour.

Stricker and Paul Goydos were elected co-chairs of this year’s Player Advisory Council and will join the circuit’s Policy Board in 2011. The two edged out Scott McCarron, who rocked the boat last month when he said Phil Mickelson’s use of a non-conforming-yet-legal Ping Eye 2 wedge was akin to “cheating,” and Mike Weir.

This is noteworthy only because of the issues that the Policy Board will decide over the next few years, among them the renewal of commissioner Tim Finchem’s contract which expires in 2012 and a new network television contract deal.
