TURNBERRY, Scotland – Chris Wood was disappointed that he made bogey on the final hole Sunday, knowing that it likely kept him from winning the British Open. But he can live with the circumstances.
From the middle of the 18th fairway, the 21-year-old Englishman was 190 yards from the hole and hit 9-iron long and right of the green.
'I hit 9-iron that went 210,' Wood recounted. 'It absolutely went miles.'
At the beginning of the day Wood's goal was to get into the top-10 to assure himself a spot in the Open next year. He accomplished his mission by shooting 1-under 279. Last year Wood won the Silver Medal that goes to the low amateur at the Open and tied for fifth.
