The tougher the better for Phil

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Turns out Phil Mickelson made the cut safely at The Players Championship and Lefty seemed less concerned about his weekend fortunes than he did his title chances after his second-round 71 left him nine shots off the lead.

Following his two-birdie, one-bogey round Mickelson said any round in the 60s on Saturday, particularly since he will tee off earlier than the leaders and play on softer greens, would put him back in the hunt on a golf course he expects to get tougher after two days of relatively low scoring.

“A lot more difficult today than yesterday,” Mickelson said. “I think it will get progressively harder.”
