U.S. leads at weather-delayed World Amateur Team Championship

The United States continued to lead at the World Team Amateur Championship as weather caused significant delays during Friday's second round.

The start of morning play was delayed six hours in Antalya, Turkey, causing only six teams to complete play Friday as only 48 of the 72-team field even began their second round.

The Americans are paced by Chris Williams, current No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, who fired an 8-under 64 in Thursday's opening round and played three holes Friday in 2-under. Teammates Justin Thomas (67) and Steven Fox (71) have yet to begin their second round.

At 15-under, the U.S. leads by five shots over both South Korea and Canada, whose players had completed most of their rounds Friday before play was suspended. Norway is a shot back in fourth place along with Mexico, whose trio of golfers have yet to tee off in the second round.

A biennial competition conducted by the International Golf Federation, the World Amateur Team Championship includes three-man teams representing 72 different countries. All three team members complete the 72-hole stroke play event, and the two lowest scores from each round represent the team's total. This year's event is being held at Cornelia Golf Club and Antalya Golf Club, which next week will also host the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final, whose 8-man field will include Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
