EDISON, N.J. – The earthquake that originated in Northern Virginia on Tuesday afternoon and could be felt throughout much of the eastern United States didn’t do any damage to Plainfield Country Club, site of this week’s Barclays tournament.
Officials inspected all areas of the course, including bleacher seating, but failed to find any issues.
The tremors were, however, felt around the venue, as the ground shook for some 20-30 seconds.
“I was sitting in the clubhouse, Dustin Johnson and I were sitting there eating,” Gary Woodland said afterward. “We both thought someone was messing with our chairs, then glasses started banging in there and we realized real quick what it was. It was crazy.”
Not every player knew what was going on, though.
“We never felt it – nothing,” said Michael Bradley, who was playing a practice round at the time. “People were like, ‘Oh my gosh, did you feel the earthquake?’ I said, ‘No, that was my drive that I hit on 18.’”
