Watson rises in world rank Ryder Cup

Tom Watson didn’t win the Open Championship, but he did jump 1,270 spots on the Official World Golf Ranking.

Watson, who didn’t have any points under the two-year system prior to his runner-up finish at Turnberry, moved to 105th in the rankings. He was 1,374th, tied with 4,000 others who had played counting events, but had finished out of the points.

Had Watson won the Open, he would have been ranked 45th in the world.

Cink, meanwhile, rose to ninth, from 33rd.

Incidentally, Watson rocketed to fourth on the U.S. points list for the 2010 Ryder Cup.
