Westwood loses caddie to injury

Lee Westwood

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – If Lee Westwood is going to regain his spot atop the Official World Golf Ranking he will have to do so without his longtime caddie Billy Foster on the bag, at least in the short term.

The world No. 3’s caddie is on his way back to the United Kingdom and is scheduled to have a magnetic resonance imaging test on his right knee after he injured himself in a soccer match Monday in Charlotte.

Westwood’s management team told Golf Channel the best-case scenario for Foster’s return to the Englishman’s bag is in four weeks and he could be out as long as six months.

Westwood is scheduled to play this week and next week’s Players Championship and likely the FedEx St. Jude Classic - which he won in 2010 and has played the last two years - the first week of June, followed by the U.S. Open along with the BMW PGA Championship on the European Tour the last week in may.
