World No. 7 Lee Westwood confirmed Tuesday that he will begin his 2013 season at the European Tour’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic, scheduled for Jan. 31-Feb. 3.
“I have always enjoyed playing in this tournament,” Westwood said in a release. “It’s a big event, which attracts some of the world’s leading players each year, and hopefully I will be able to get the job done this time around.”
Last year, the Englishman tied for second in Dubai, one shot behind winner Rafael Cabrera-Bello. Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Ben Curtis and the Molinari brothers were among the players who teed it up last year at Emirates Golf Club.
The event is held opposite the PGA Tour’s Waste Management Phoenix Open.
