PITTSFORD, N.Y. – After Grace Park signed her final scorecard before officially retiring Sunday, LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan hugged her.
"Remember what I told you," Whan said at the Wegmans LPGA Championship. "Remember Brett Favre. How about five or six comebacks?"
Park laughed, but she had a tough final round, shooting 7-over-par 79. Park got a standing ovation on the first tee. She got another long ovation as she stepped on to the 18th green.
"I thought I was going to ball my eyes out today, but think I was more emotional on Friday," Park said about thinking she was going to miss the cut in the second round.
Park, 32, a six-time LPGA winner, is retiring after long bouts of back, neck and hip injuries hampered her skills and her ambition. She is getting married in the fall and looking for a new career.
Park said she got a nice going away present from Se Ri Pak Saturday night at the hotel.
"She brought me a bouquet of flowers and a six pack of beer," Park said. "She said I might need the beer, I am so emotional."
