What a difference a year makes

MARANA, Ariz. – Maybe it was the jumping cholla, the vicious cactus that makes a walk in the Dove Mountain park an experiment in hazardous duty. Maybe it was Accenture’s jump from Team Tiger. Maybe he was just not ready.

Whatever the reason Tiger Woods skipped this week’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship his absence has left an indelible impact.

Last year Match Play Tuesday was a surreal zoo when the world No. 1 returned to Tour duty after an eight-month injury-induced hiatus, complete with over 100 scribes and photographers waiting for him in the predawn chill.

This year two dozen reporters mulled around the press center just past noon and the only buzz was coming from Mike Weir over the prospects of the Canadian men’s hockey team.

What a difference a year makes.
