Woods, Love expect to see low scores at Medinah

Tiger Woods

ATLANTA – On Monday U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III made it clear that the set-up plan at Medinah for next week’s matches was for comfort over speed.

“I told them to cut the rough. I’ve been telling them that for a while,” Love said. “I think everyone would rather see birdies.”

On Wednesday Tiger Woods – whose record at the Chicago-land gem includes two PGA Championship victories (1999 and 2006) – echoed the captain’s comments.

“The two times that we've played the PGA’s there they set it up pretty hard and we still made a bunch of birdies,” Woods said. “If we get the right kind of weather coming in there, and then being match play where we naturally can be more aggressive, the format lends itself to that. I can see there being just a boat load of birdies there.”

In 1999 Woods won with an 11-under total and a stroke ahead of Sergio Garcia, and in ’06 he finished at 18 under and five strokes clear of Shaun Micheel.
