Woods to play in Turkey in October

Tiger Woods

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Tiger Woods will play the Turkish Airways World Golf Finals in October his manager confirmed to GolfChannel.com on Thursday.

The event, which will be played in October and feature an eight-man field, is not sanctioned by any tour and is designed to bolster Turkey’s bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games. According to reports in July, Woods had agreed to play the event but at that time his manager, Mark Steinberg, said his participation was not finalized.

“He’s going to play,” said Steinberg following Woods’ round at the PGA Championship.

This year’s field will include Woods, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood Justin Rose, Charl Schwartzel, Hunter Mahan and Webb Simpson playing for a $5.3 million purse. World No. 1 Luke Donald announced last month he was not playing the event and there has been no announcement regarding his replacement.

The match play event will be played Oct. 9-12, the same week as the Frys.com Open which Woods played last year.
