You Oughta Know: Puerto Rico Open

RSS

While many of the game's biggest names are busy carving up the TPC Blue Monster Course in Miami, a full field has put up similarly low numbers at the Puerto Rico Open. Here is what You Oughta Know heading into the final round at Trump International Golf Club:

• Sharing the lead at 18 under after 54 holes, both Fabian Gomez and Scott Brown are in search of their first career PGA Tour wins. Both have found success recently in this event, though; Brown finished tied for fifth here a year ago, while Gomez tied for seventh at Trump International in 2011.

• A pair of notable players made moves up the leaderboard thanks to holes-in-one on Saturday. Playing on a sponsor's exemption, Jordan Spieth aced the 11th en route to a 5-under 67, while Ryo Ishikawa, a runner-up here last year, made his on the eighth hole. Spieth will begin the final round in a tie for third at 14 under, while Ishikawa is two shots further back in a tie for eighth.

• Like Spieth, Blayne Barber has parlayed a sponsor's exemption into a tie for third through 54 holes. The Auburn grad, who disqualified himself from Q-School last fall, fired his second 6-under 66 of the week Saturday, and will head into the final round four shots behind the co-leaders.

• Matt Jones fired the low round of the day Saturday, a bogey-free 64 that moved the Australian into a tie for eighth at 12 under. Jones is continuing a strong open to his 2013 season, as he has already recorded four top-30 finishes in five PGA Tour starts this year, including a tie for 18th at the Honda Classic last week.

• While many enter the final round with hopes of winning, for several players a high finish is also an important goal - as a top-10 result this week will earn them a spot in next week's Tampa Bay Championship. This is especially key for those without status this year on the PGA Tour, like Spieth, Barber and former U.S. Amateur champion Peter Uihlein, who begins the final round tied for eighth.
