Both Koch and Jones were bogey free during their rounds while Barrett hit 15 greens and every fairway, made one bogey on the 164-yard par-3 11th after three putting from 30 feet.
Barrett and Jones finished early in the day. They then watched and waited to see if 66 would hold up as low score. ' The wind has picked up a little bit,' Barrett said after her round. 'Our front nine was totally wind-free. I mean, not even hardly a breath. It started to blow actually on like right when we made the turn. So who knows. There are a lot of good players out there. I would be surprised (if 66 held). Buy you never do know.'
Non-exempt player Lisa DePaulo finished 3-under-par 67 - just one stroke off the lead. DePaulo, who had to qualify for the event, made four birdies and an impressive eagle on the 386-yard, par-4 16th. After hitting her 3-wood, she knocked the ball in with her pitching wedge from 105 yards. She also carded two bogeys during her round. Both bogeys were the result of her putting.
DePaulo is familiar with Onion Creek Golf Club having grown up in Austin and feels she has a pretty good shot at this event. ' I feel like I can just stay on the same track. I mean, I played the par fives one over. No. Even. So you know, I could may be pick up there a little bit or just - - I just want to stick to my game plan. And whatever happens happens. I got a caddy from the Austin Golf Club. And we just clicked. And I like it because I had the game plan, but he helped keep me to it.'
Amy Alcott and Stefania Croce withdrew on Thursday. Kelly Cap is in the field for Croce and Mary Kay Marino took Alcott's place.
