Rogers wins Senior Sarazen Flight

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Mickey Rogers began the final round of the Golf Channel Amateur Tour's Senior National Championship leading the Senior Sazaen Flight (handicap 12.0-15.9) by two strokes. And he had one thought:

'No big numbers,' he said after shooting 15-over 87 to win the four-day competition at 51-over 339, three shots clear of Joe Slade (88).

Rogers, a 57-year-old from Mt. Pleasant, S.C., had six double bogeys Friday on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, but he made nothing higher and managed nine pars.

'I was trying to play smart, hit fairways in greens. It didn't always happen, but I got through it,' he said. 'I love these courses.'

And well he should. Rogers won a pair of Golf Channel Amateur Tour majors this season at the TPC Sawgrass Open on the Stadium Course and the Hall of Fame Major on the Slammer & Squire course.

'I hope they play [the Senior National Championship] here next year,' he said.
