Allen Wronowski is the President of the PGA of America. The Ryder Cup is just two weeks away from starting at Medinah Country Club and like all Ryder Cups, there will be many unique factors to this year’s edition. Chicago is such a famous sports town with some excellent fans and Medinah is a proven Championship course with some great holes that demand risk and offer potentially great rewards.
There will be a lot of great events with past Ryder Cup Captains and celebrities participating in a scramble on Tuesday, the gala dinner on Wednesday, and the opening ceremony on Thursday. The Tuesday scramble will include Captains like Lanny Wadkins and Dave Stockton as well as celebrities like Justin Timberlake and Bill Murray.
Another great thing about Ryder Cup week is having the Junior Ryder Cup which is a great way to look at the future of the game of golf. Future Ryder Cup competitors Hunter Mahan and Sergio Garcia are just two examples of players who participated in the Junior Ryder Cup and then played in the Ryder Cup as professionals.
Michael Breed, who is the host of The Golf Fix on Golf Channel, is the 2012 recipient of the PGA of America Teacher of the Year award. Breed is one of the superstars among the thousands and men and women PGA professionals around the country and he has worked very hard to help as many people as possible improve their games whether it is through their lessons or through The Golf Fix. Everyone at the PGA of America is very proud of Michael and of all of the great work he has done.
His tenure as PGA of America President is coming to a close and he will be passing the job to Ted Bishop. Bishop is a great guy and a very passionate PGA of America professional who has done a great job as Vice President. The PGA of America has a great system where the Vice President has a chance to learn how to be President so that when the transition occurs, it is quite seamless.
