Phil Mickelson withdrew from the Memorial Tournament after a 1st round 79, citing fatigue. In the last 4 weeks, Mickelson played 3 PGA TOUR events and flew to Europe to celebrate his wife's 40th birthday.
- No Stalling
Scott Stallings shot a first round 6-under par 66 to take the first round lead. Stallings is one shot ahead of Spencer Levin and Erik Compton.
- Strong Finishes
Rory McIlroy carded a quadruple bogey and Tiger Woods and Luke Donald both carded double bogeys but all 3 are under par thru 1 round at Muirfield Village. Tiger is -2 while Luke and Rory are -1.)
- Tom Terrific
Illinois' Thomas Pieters is the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf Individual Champion. He finished the 54-hole tournament 5-under par for a three shot win. His team did not finish in the top 8 to qualify for the match play portion that will decide the 2012 team championship.
