Martin Kaymer is 4th in the Official World Golf Ranking and he is playing in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic this week. He entered the show to “Sweet Child of Mine” by Guns N’ Roses and said that the only concert he has ever seen was Guns N’ Roses. He saw them with his Grandfather when he was a kid.
When asked if his Dubai playing partner Miguel Angel Jimenez asked to join him in his famous pre-round stretch, he said he would love to be a part of it and hopefully it could be on camera so it can be posted on YouTube. He said that it would definitely be a lot of fun.
At this point in 2012, he is still working hard with his coach and his trainer and looking back at Abu Dhabi where he unexpectedly missed the cut, he said that he really struggled with his putting that week in some very windy weather. In past years he has not played well in the middle months of the season and he is trying to change that trend this year.
Every year he has gone to The Masters he has not played his own game. Instead, he has tried to tailor his game to Augusta National and that, in his opinion, has been his biggest mistake. He feels that if he can stick to his game and be himself on the golf course, he can play well at Augusta National and he looks forward to trying to make that happen in April.
Looking ahead to the Ryder Cup, he thinks that Spaniard Alvaro Quiros will have a great season this year in large part because he is so motivated to make a team that is captained by Jose Maria Olazabal. Quiros was very motivated in 2010 and worked very hard to make the team but came up short. He also hopes that Matteo Manassero makes the team because he is not only a great player but he is also a fun personality and would make the entire Ryder Cup experience a lot of fun. He spoke with Jose Maria Olazabal last week and he certainly hopes to make the team but knows that if he plays well in the big events, he will make the team so right now he is focused on the big events in 2012.
This year, he will play maybe 2 or 3 fewer tournaments than he has in the past and he will also arrive to the sites of the Major Championships earlier as well. He is planning to arrive on the Friday before Major Championship week in hopes of having four great weeks.
He also said that he plans to play more in the United States in 2013 and when asked if that means PGA TOUR membership in 2013, Kaymer responded that it is a distinct possibility that he will become a PGA TOUR member next year.
