Scott Piercy won the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday for his second career PGA TOUR win. As a result of this win, he will not be able to defend his 2011 win in the Reno-Tahoe Open this week. Instead, he is playing in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and he has also earned places in the field for the 2012 PGA Championship and the 2013 Masters among other events.
The last 24 hours have been a blur. Monday night led to into Monday morning and he did not get any sleep the night after winning a national Open. It has been very exciting and although he is a bit tired today, he is very happy with everything that has happened.
In his opinion, the key to his progression from winning the 2011 Reno-Tahoe Open to winning the 2012 RBC Canadian Open has been his improvement in pretty much all statistical categories especially ball striking and greens in regulation. Simply put, he has been able to give himself more opportunities to succeed and he has been able to take advantage.
Over time, he has been able to significantly improve his attitude when he is in contention and not playing as well as he wants. While it is something that he will probably have to always work on, he is getting better at controlling his temper and it is great to be able to close out tournaments and win instead of getting angry and losing tournaments.
His recent goals have including getting into the top 50 in the world and qualifying for the season-ending TOUR Championship in the PGA TOUR Playoffs. Thanks to his win on Sunday as well as stronger play all year long, both goals are now within reach.
