Golf Channel Reporter Tom Abbott reported this week from the RICOH Women’s British Open at Royal Liverpool. When he arrived in England on Tuesday, no one could believe the forecast for 50-60 mph winds but everyone believed it when it happened on Friday. Conditions were challenging on Sunday as well but all four seasons were felt by the players during the week.

Shin’s 64 in the second round was her best round of the week and even more impressive than her even par performance on Sunday. The 64 marked the lowest round of her career in a Major Championship and what made it even more amazing was that it took place on a course as difficult as Royal Liverpool.

At this moment, you could say that Stacy Lewis, Ai Miyazato, and Jiyai Shin all have a chance to unseat Yani Tseng as World #1. Shin has been World #1 in the past but she has struggled with numerous injuries and surgeries throughout 2012 which has resulted in a drop in the World Rankings. Shin’s friend So Yeon Ryu told Abbott that being off the course with injuries really upset Shin and that Shin hated not being able to play.

Paula Creamer is playing well right now and some of the swing changes she has worked on are taking effect but she still has not won since the 2010 U.S. Open. Stacy Lewis may actually have the best chance among Americans to become World #1 because she has won and she has shown herself to be very tenacious on the course although she tends to get down on herself when she is not playing well. However, Lewis and anyone else who wants to become World #1 has a lot of work to do because Yani Tseng still has a big lead in the World Rankings and she is starting to play well again.
