Nick Watney withdrew from the Waste Management Phoenix Open with an illness. Jarrod Lyle takes his place. Watney tied for 5th in this tournament last year.
- Mickelson Makeover
Phil Mickelson says he will waive a design fee if he can lead a redesign of the North Course at Torrey Pines. The North Course is 600 yards shorter than the South -- which hosted the 2008 U.S. Open.
- Els Eyes Help
3-time Major Champion Ernie Els consulted an eye specialist to help his game turn around. Els ranked 181st in putting on the PGA TOUR in 2011. He is currently 59th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
- Begay Awarded
The Golf Writers Association of America awarded Notah Begay III with this year's Charlie Bartlett Award for unselfish contributions to the betterment of society. Begay has raised more than $3,000,000 in 3 years for his foundation to help fight childhood obesity in the Native American community.
