In a pressure-packed all-Canadian finale that required an extra hole of sudden death, David Byrne (Essex, Ontario), defeated Kent Eger (Regina, Saskatchewan) to be crowned winner of Big Break Indian Wells.
The 12-hole match was contested at the Celebrity Course at Indian Wells Golf Resort and broken up into two stages. Winner take all was the premise of the finale, and Byrne’s two-putt par on the first hole of sudden death sealed his victory.
As champion of Big Break Indian Wells, Byrne receives one of the largest prizes in Big Break series history – headlined by an invitation to compete in the 2012 Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the PGA TOUR and $70,000 in cash. In addition, he receives an endorsement contract from Adams Golf, which includes $10,000 cash; a $10,000 shopping spree from Dick’s Sporting Goods and an all-expense return trip for two to Indian Wells, Calif., courtesy of Indian Wells Golf Resort.
Taking place Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells, Calif., Big Break Indian Wells unfolded on the resort’s two championship golf courses – Celebrity Course and Players Course. The Celebrity Course is a two-time host to the PGA Tour’s Skins Game, and both courses are ranked as one of California’s top-20 courses by GOLF Magazine and Golfweek Magazine – the only 36-hole facility in the state to boast that honor.
