"It feels awesome. Today was a picture perfect day." – Tiger Woods, after winning the Chevron World Challenge for his first win of any kind in more than two years. He birdied the final two holes to top Zach Johnson by a shot.
“To be able to win a golf tournament when you are not at your best is something. Tiger Woods did this all the time." – Rory McIlroy, on his two-stroke win at the Hong Kong Open. McIlroy had said earlier in the week he was run down, fatigued and not in top form.
“Step outside and settle it.” – Robert Allenby, whose words were directed at fellow Aussie Geoff Ogilvy after the two got in a heated, public debate because of sarcastic comments Ogilvy wrote about Allenby on Twitter.
“I’ve just learned to let things happen. Do what I can, and things will fall into place if I just keep working at it.” – Sam Saunders, grandson of Arnold Palmer, after shooting 68 during the first round of the PGA Tour Q-School on the Nicklaus Tournament course in La Quinta, Calif.
"If you would've asked me (if I would win another major) when I was on the couch this summer, in a boot and in crutches, I would have given you a different answer." – Tiger Woods, prior to the start of the Chevron World Challenge, which he went on to win after rounds of 69-67-73-69.
"(Dustin Johnson) was in the hands of an excellent surgeon (Dr. George Caldwell), and a full and speedy recovery is expected." – David Winkle, manager for Johnson, on his surgery to repair cartilage in his right knee that had slowed him since January. Johnson he should be able to begin chipping and putting by mid-December and begin full preparations for the 2012 season by late next month.
"I might be the last player in history to be penalized under that rule, that could be a trivia question one day." – Nick Watney, after a one-shot penalty he incurred during the first round of the Chevron World Challenge due to the wind moving his golf ball after addressing it. A new rule that would eliminate the penalty stroke if deemed that the wind moved the ball after address is not effective until January 1, 2012.
"It looks like he's getting a lot of confidence back again, it looks like the Tiger of old, really, and it's great to see. We need him out there playing, and playing well." – Steve Stricker, after playing alongside Tiger Woods during the first round of the Chevron World Challenge.
"The question I keep asking is, what were range balls doing in the bunkers out on the championship golf course?" – John Daly, explaining why he walked away from the Aussie Open.
“I don't want to rely on people giving them to me again because there are a lot of great players out there.” – Scott McCarron, on why he is playing in the PGA Tour's final stage of Q-School instead of using his conditional status for finishing between 126th and 150th on the money list in 2011.
