Beware the Sick Golfer

Seven tournaments into his 2011 season on the Gateway Pro Tour, our West Coast character of “The Minors,” Benoit Beisser, has made six cuts, $23,112.50 and is carrying an impressive stroke average of 69.55 which has yielded four top-10 finishes thus far.

Teeing it up in his next event Tuesday, 'Wah' is coming off of a solid week – a $3,000 payday for his T7 finish last week –  but, as he explains in the following blog, it wasn’t a very pleasant experience due to an unexpected, and very uncomfortable, bout of the stomach flu:

Hello all, Wah here. Well, it was another successful week for me on the Gateway Pro Tour. We played at the Wigwam Golf Resort Red Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz., which some of the guys and I refer to as, “The Wamer.”

I want to congratulate Nate Lashley who shot a smoking 20-under to win the tournament after shooting a crazy opening round of 60. That’s really playing some 'G.'

I shot three straight rounds of 67 to finish at 15 under, tying for seventh. However, my big accomplishment of the week was finally eating something. Since Monday I’ve been fighting a stomach bug that hasn’t been fun to say the least. But the weird thing about when I play golf sick – I usually play well.

I don’t know if it’s because I’m trying not to throw up and just not pass out on my feet, but the birdies just seem to keep coming. The last time I was really sick, I played in a small mini-tour event at Sunridge Canyon GC in Fountain Hills, Ariz. The first day I shot 65 to break the course record and while even feeling worse the second day, shot a 63 to break it again. Good times!

That said, for those of you who are concerned about my health – I appreciate it, but I’m feeling much better. And I’m definitely looking forward to this week’s tournament back at The Wamer’s more difficult course, the Gold. Who knows, I might even have some fun video to share with you from the week. K, bye!
