Plan your own Ryder Cup at Kiawah

The U.S. team's dramatic comeback attempt at last week's Ryder Cup might have come up just short, but Ryder Cup fever doesn't have to end there. For those who love the competition of team match play, Kiawah Island Golf Resort off the coast of South Carolina and site of the famous 'War on the Shore' Ryder Cup, is offering its 20th Anniversary Ryder Cup package.

Ideally, you gather up a group of 16, pick captains, divide into two teams of eight and have at it. But it doesn't have to 16. Resort officials will work with any size group to set up an event.

'For less than $1,000 each, groups can play three of our courses, ending on The Ocean Course, in a complete Ryder Cup experience – playing the same format, sharing the camaraderie and competition on the same venue that produced some of the Ryder Cup's most lasting memories,' said Brian Gerard, Kiawah's director of golf.

It was actually 19 years ago (1991) when the U.S. team won on the difficult Pete Dye-designed Ocean Course at Kiawah after Bernard Langer, in the final match against Hale Irwin, missed a short putt that would have given the Europeans a tie and allowed them to keep the Cup.

The 20th anniversary package includes three nights' accommodations, three rounds of golf with one of them coming on the Ocean Course, opening and closing ceremonies with beer and wine, team hats and shirts, trophy for the winning team, breakfasts and on-island transportation.
