Englishman Paul Casey took advantage of favorable scoring conditions during the third round at Crans-Sur-Sierre Golf Club, posting a 7-under 63 to take a three-shot lead over the Omega European Masters field into Sunday’s final round.
Casey, who started the day four back of Thriston Lawrence’s lead, birdied six of seven holes on his front nine to card a 29. He finished the round with another circle on the 18th hole thanks to a spectacular approach shot to get to 16 under on the tournament.
The 15-time DP World Tour winner wasn’t the only player to go low on Saturday — three others got into the clubhouse with 63s. Maximilian Steinlechner and Erik Van Rooyen both shot 7 under in the third round to move into a four-way tie four second along with Eugenio Chacarra and Nacho Elvira at 13 under.
Bernd Wiesberger, who bogeyed the opening hole, also shot 63 on Saturday. He birdied three of the last fours on the front nine to help mitigate the damage from earlier in the round before going on to eagle the par-5 14th. His bogey-free 30 on the back nine helped vault him up the leaderboard, albeit six back of Casey at 10 under.
Though he started the day 10 shots off the lead, Wiesberger finished Saturday sitting T-10 with the 36-hole leader Lawrence.
The 29-year-old South African, who won the tournament in 2025 and put together a bogey-free 63 just a day prior, carded a 3-over 73 on Saturday to drop quite a ways down the leaderboard.
In addition to Wiesberger, Lawrence is tied with 12 other players at 10 under after 54 holes. Those also sitting T-10 include a pair of Masters winners in Patrick Reed and Danny Willet. Harry Hall, Matt Wallace and David Puig — all of whom sit inside the top 80 in the world golf ranking — also are T-10 at 10 under in the Swiss Alps.
A little ways down the leaderboard is American Ryan Gerard, fresh off a solo third at the Tour Championship in Atlanta last week, sitting T-28 at 8 under the tournament.
Gerard was left off the U.S. Presidents Cup team earlier this week, along with fellow Tar Hell alum and close friend Ben Griffin.
Jackson Koivun got the proverbial last spot on the U.S. roster for Medinah, with captain Brandt Snedeker using one of his six selections on the 21-year-old PGA Tour rookie.
