GULLANE, Scotland – It’s official: This will be a bone-dry British Open.
A cloudy start greeted players early Sunday at Muirfield, but that will give way to plenty of sunshine and a steady 15 mph breeze during the final round of the Open.
There hasn’t been a sprinkle all week at Muirfield, a stark departure from when the Open was last held here, in ’02, when an unexpected storm rolled in off the Firth of Forth and wreaked havoc.
The high temperature on Sunday is expected to reach 68 degrees, with increasing amounts of sunshine and isolated wind gusts up to 20 mph.
After being watered overnight, the greens are rolling at 10 ½ on the Stimpmeter, but they are expected to pick up pace throughout the afternoon.
