The Dubai Desert Classic pro-am was canceled Wednesday following the death of a founding member of Emirates Golf Club, who suffered cardiac arrest while warming up for the round.

Ashok Bakshi, a past captain at the club (2002-03), was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He was 75.

Bakshi had been slated to play with European Tour professional Romain Wattel in the afternoon pro-am.

“We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our dear friend,” said Mohamed Juma Buamaim, the vice chairman and CEO of Golf in Dubai. “He was a fun-loving, generous and caring person, who always wore a smile on his face and had a positive attitude toward life. He died doing something he loved. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”
