Dustin Johnson earned the first of what should be multiple season-ending awards Wednesday when he was named the Player of the Year by the PGA of America.
The PGA uses a points-based system to determine its winner. Johnson earned 90 points for his three wins, which included the U.S. Open. Jason Day was second, with 74 points, while Adam Scott (54), Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy (44 points each) rounded out the top five.
Johnson (69.17) also won the Vardon Trophy for the lowest adjusted scoring average. Day was disqualified from the race after withdrawing from the BMW Championship earlier this month, so Scott was the runner-up at 69.47.
The PGA Tour’s Player of the Year, which is voted on by the players, will be announced early next month.
