The first? Arnie congrats fan on Bay Hill albatross - in ’93

Since the PGA Tour started coming to Bay Hill in 1979, no player had made an albatross in competition until Daniel Berger’s deuce there last Saturday.

His 2 came on the par-5 sixth hole in the third round. A day later, Zach Johnson holed his second shot on the short par-5 16th.

On Saturday, Orlando resident Christine Luhrs-Snyder posted on Facebook: “My husband and I just heard Arnold Palmer tell Jimmy Roberts on NBC that no one ever had a double eagle on #6. However, my husband Richard Snyder did in 1993. See the attached photo and he also witnessed Daniel Berger’s this morning at the tournament.”

Palmer surely meant in a PGA Tour competition, but nonetheless here’s a copy of the letter from 1993, signed by Arnie:
