KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Rory McIlroy handed out hotel accommodations last month at the British Open. Phil Mickelson has gifted watches and crisp $100 bills. Adam Scott will send a nice bouquet of flowers.
It may not feel great at the time, but sometimes it pays to get beaned with a golf ball by the world’s best players.
Scott hit a woman with a drive on the seventh hole Friday during the second round of the PGA Championship. Luckily enough, a doctor was standing right next to the woman and immediately began treating her until on-site medics arrived.
“I hope she’s going to be OK,” Scott said. “I’ll find out.”
Scott told reporters that he took the woman’s details and would send her flowers. It’s the least Scott could do. The ball hit the woman and bounced back into the rough. Had it not it was heading for a clump of trees. He ultimately made bogey on the hole.
The British Open runner-up shot 68-75 to stand at 1 under par for the tournament. He’s assured of being safely inside the top 15 by the end of the day.
