PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – For Lucas Glover, everything turned around on a Wednesday.
“I don’t usually take much stock in a pro-am, but last Wednesday gave me a lot of confidence,” he said, “because I finally looked up and the ball was going where I was looking most of the day.”
Glover parlayed that pro-am eureka moment into a victory at last week’s Wells Fargo Championship and he’s continued that momentum so far this week, entering the weekend at The Players Championship in a share of third place.
It’s been a monumental turnaround. In his first seven starts of the season, Glover made four cuts, didn’t have a finish better than T-20 and his scoring average was a paltry 71.04.
Since then, he not only owns that third career title, but he’s posted a scoring average of 68.17 in his last six rounds.
Going into the weekend at TPC Sawgrass, he’s just two strokes behind leader David Toms in search of a second straight win.
“Happy with where I stand,” he said, “but just got to give myself as many opportunities for birdies [Saturday] as I can make, because I’m putting well.”
