MEDINAH, Ill. – “Phil’s always got a plan,” said U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III when asked about his decision to sit Phil Mickelson in Saturday’s fourball session despite a perfect start for Lefty (3-0-0).

Love continued, “He wanted to play two or three times the first two days and that’s his plan.”

Paired with rookie Keegan Bradley, Mickelson hasn’t seen the 18th hole since his practice rounds but at 42 years old and slowed in recent years by psoriatic arthritis he felt it was best that he rest at least one session.

It’s worth pointing out that no one on the American side played all five matches.
