LEMONT, Ill. – Steve Stricker withdrew from the BMW Championship after the second round on Friday. Neck pain was cited for the reason.

Stricker plans to return to the Tour Championship next week

After posting an opening-round 5-over 76, Stricker bounced back to post 1-under 70, but removed himself from the 70-man field after the round.

Stricker made headlines earlier in the week, when he criticized the 2008 redesign of Cog Hill’s No. 4 course by Rees Jones.

“They need to get their money back, I guess. It’s too bad what happened here,” he said. “Visually it looks much better than what it did, but playability, from the playability standpoint, I’ve got to believe for the average golfer, it is very difficult. And the players on a whole don’t really care for the redo.”

Stricker owns two wins and five total top-10 finishes this year, but hasn’t reached the latter mark in his last half-dozen starts, dating back to the first week of July.
