With Sergio Garcia holding the lead and Tiger Woods fading on Moving Day, here are some notes and nuggets to whet your appetite going into The Barclays final round:
• Tiger Woods had four three-putts in the third round of The Barclays, the most three-putts he’s ever had in one round on the PGA Tour.
• Woods failed to break par Saturday at Bethpage, carding a 1-over 72. His Saturday scoring average in 2012 is 70.50 and he ranks 55th on Tour.
• With a win at The Barclays, Sergio Garcia could move to No. 1 on the FedEx Cup points list. This is particularly important, since Garcia has opted not to play at next week’s playoff event – the Deutsche Bank Championship.
• Garcia has won The Barclays twice (2001, 2004) before it was a FedEx Cup playoff event. He converted a two-stroke 54-hole lead into victory at The Barclays in 2001.
• If Garcia wins this week, it will be the first time he has won consecutive weeks on the PGA Tour. Garcia won in back-to-back starts in 2011 on the European Tour (Castello Masters and Andalucia Masters).
• The last player to win back-to-back PGA Tour events was Woods in 2009 (Buick Open, WGC-Bridgestone Invitational).
• Any player in the field at The Barclays can mathematically move inside the top five in the points standings with a runner-up finish or victory.
• Nick Watney – currently in second place, two strokes off the lead – has come behind in two of his four PGA Tour victories.
• Watney missed the cut at the 2009 U.S. Open when it was held at Bethpage Black.
• In the 45-year history of The Barclays, the third-round leader/co-leader has gone on to win 24 times.
