We sometimes forget how young Michelle Wie is – she turns 23 today – because she’s been in the golfing public eye for more than a decade already. But with two LPGA victories, a degree from Stanford and endorsement contracts with Nike and Kia, she’s hardly an underachiever.
But how does the wee little Wie stack up against other greats – golfing and otherwise – at such a young age? As we celebrate her birthday and her achievements, we take a look at other accomplishments by youngsters throughout time.
Michelle Wie, age 23
In 2000, at the age of 10, Michelle became the youngest qualifier ever at the USGA Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship. By the age of 13, Wie became the youngest golfer ever to make the cut at an LPGA event, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, a major no less, where she finished in the top 10. At only 14 years of age, she became the first woman to shoot a sub-par round (68 in the 2004 Sony Open) in a sanctioned Men’s PGA Tour event. She has two
