Turns out Tianlang Guan might not even be the most talented youngster in China.

Even with a few late stumbles Tuesday, Wocheng Ye, 12, became the youngest player to qualify for a European Tour event, punching his ticket to the Volvo China Open, May 2-5. Interestingly enough, Ye broke the record set last year by Guan, who was 13.

Playing at Wolong Valley Country Club, and with his father on the bag, Ye raced out to a 4-under 68 in the first of two rounds, but dropped shots on Nos. 11 and 14 and carded a triple-bogey 8 at 16. His 2-under 142 at the Western China qualifier was still enough to secure one of the three spots in the field.

Ye, who lives in Dongguan in the Guangdong province, is a member of Hillview Golf Club.
