Knost wants to donate belly putter to USGA

Here’s one that’s sure to ruffle some feathers in the USGA’s Far Hills, N.J., headquarters.

In 2007, Colt Knost became just the third player ever – joining Bobby Jones and Jay Sigel – to win three separate USGA titles in the same year, as he swept the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Amateur Public Links and was a member of the victorious Walker Cup team.

To commemorate those events, Knost was asked Wednesday to donate a club from those wins to the organization. Here was his response, via Twitter:

Last week, the USGA – along with the R&A – implemented Rule 14-1b, which will disallow any anchored stroke beginning on Jan. 1, 2016. It’s a decision which has divided the professional ranks, with many players claiming that it should remain legal and others applauding the ruling.
